Pocomos replaced a black-box ISO with a transparent, white-labeled, integrated payment solution.

Onboarding used to be a black box. Pricing went back and forth, accounts dragged on for weeks, and our customers had to chase API keys themselves.

About Pocomos.

Pocomos is a field-services platform built for pest-control operators across the United States and Canada. Their software runs routing, scheduling, customer management, recurring billing, and payments.

The challenge.

Pocomos had been operating under an ISO/Agent arrangement that relied on a third-party gateway, leaving them with limited visibility and control. Everything from pricing, underwriting, and account approval to API-key retrieval happened outside of Pocomos' view, creating unnecessary friction for both their team and their customers.

Onboarding created the most friction

Merchant onboarding was the biggest pain point. Accounts often took too long to get approved, and pricing required too much back-and-forth between Pocomos, the ISO, and the merchant. Since Pocomos had no visibility into the actual application or underwriting process, they couldn't give customers clear updates. When a customer asked "where's my account?", the only honest answer was "we'll check and get back to you."

Once an account was finally approved, the real friction began. The merchant had to log into a third-party gateway themselves, find their own API keys, and plug them into Pocomos. Since the gateway belonged to another provider, Pocomos couldn't easily guide customers through the experience or control the handoff.

Canadian merchants added another layer of complexity. A new Canadian account required a different bank, a separate application, and additional information Pocomos did not routinely collect during onboarding. As a result, approvals often stretched two to three weeks.

The overall result was an onboarding process that felt disconnected, slow, and difficult for Pocomos to own from start to finish.

What wasn't working

Black-box onboarding and underwriting with no visibility that could take weeks to complete. Pricing negotiated case-by-case by the ISO. Lack of transparency on residual payouts. Customers chasing their own API keys inside a foreign gateway. An ISO + third-party gateway sandwich Pocomos couldn't see into or control.

Why Zift.

Zift came recommended through the Five Star Franchising network, which gave Pocomos an early level of trust. But what ultimately made the difference was the structure of the relationship. With Zift, Pocomos had more visibility, more control, and a direct role in the onboarding, pricing, and merchant account setup process.

Instead of negotiating with an ISO every time a customer needed an account, Pocomos and Zift agreed on a standard pricing structure for all Pocomos customers. This removed the back-and-forth, reduced surprises, and created a more consistent onboarding experience. Zift also simplified the technical side of the relationship. Instead of relying on a separate gateway between Pocomos's software and the processor, Zift gave them direct API access for white label onboarding, processing, tokenization, and reporting. Each customer could be set up under one merchant account ID that supports both credit card and ACH processing out of the box.

A hosted, white-labeled onboarding form.

The biggest change was the introduction of a Zift-hosted, white-labeled onboarding form. Pocomos customers now complete one online application with pre-set pricing. Underwriting is visible to Pocomos in real time, accounts are typically set up and ready to process the same day, or within a couple of days if the merchant submitted incorrect information.

Just as importantly, Pocomos now manages API keys for their customers. The merchant no longer has to log into an unfamiliar gateway, find credentials, and add them to the system. Pocomos provisions everything from their side, allowing the merchant to move from approval to processing without leaving the Pocomos product.

What Pocomos uses today.

Pocomos owns the recurring billing experience inside its platform, while Zift provides the processing, tokenization, onboarding, and reporting infrastructure behind it. As the partnership has grown, the feature set has expanded as well.

Hosted onboarding page Integrated card & ACH Account Updater Recurring billing logic Tokenization Canadian processing Unified reporting White-label UX One merchant account ID

Account Updater, added after go-live

Because a large share of revenue flows through recurring payments, expired and replaced cards can quickly become a source of involuntary churn. After onboarding, Zift enabled Account Updater for Pocomos to help keep card data current automatically, without merchants or end customers needing to intervene.

One account, multiple payment types

Each merchant Pocomos onboards receives one merchant account ID that supports Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Amex and ACH out of the box. For their customers, that means one application and one underwriting approval instead of separate processes for card and ACH payments.

Canadian ready from day one

Pocomos serves pest control operators in both the US and Canada. With Zift, Canadian merchants follow the same onboarding flow as US merchants, with similar approval timelines. This removes the extra operational friction that once slowed Pocomos' Canadian expansion.

The integration.

Pocomos handled the integration with one developer. Token migration for existing merchants ran in parallel with new merchant onboarding, and the project was live in roughly two weeks. Communication happened directly between Pocomos's developer and Zift's technical team, with noo ticket queues or vendor hand-offs.

Integration profile

~2 weeks to live · 1 developer · Existing merchant tokens migrated · Custom recurring-billing logic preserved on Pocomos's side · Account Updater added post-launch · Hosted onboarding configured and white-labeled.

Partnership results.

  • Same-day merchant onboarding. Underwriting now completes the same day when merchants provide accurate information. Pocomos sees every step in real time, instead of waiting for someone else to email back.
  • Standard, agreed pricing for every customer. Pocomos and Zift settled the pricing schedule once. Every merchant gets the same terms,no per-deal negotiation, no surprises.
  • Pocomos manages API keys directly. Customers no longer chase credentials in an unfamiliar gateway. Pocomos provisions everything, taking the merchant from approval to processing with minimal friction.
  • White labeled onboarding flow. The hosted page is configured to feel like Pocomos. Merchants stay inside one experience from sign-up to first transaction.
  • Canadian onboarding. Replaced a 2–3 week, separate-bank application process with approvals on the standard Zift flow.
  • Account Updater protects recurring revenue. Expired and replaced cards are refreshed automatically, keeping subscription revenue flowing without merchant intervention.
  • Integration live in about two weeks. One developer, direct communication with Zift's technical team. Token migration ran in parallel.
